ABSTRACT
The research was to scrutinize the effect of cybercrime on the youth in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Benin city. There are various crimes committed within the cyberspace. It includes cyberbullying, cyberterrorism, cyberlaundering, cyberstalking, transmitting of viruses, internet thefts, website defacement, account hacking, and children’s pornography. This research has shown the deep-rooted consequences youths face in cyberspace which is meant to ease the living conditions of people is filled with human-generated crimes. In the cause of the research, it was observed that the youths don’t report crimes in cyberspace to parents, teachers, or law enforcement agencies, meaning all the experiences are bottled up. This has led to various effects such as behavioral effects, social effects, and psychological effects. The recommendations made was that there is need for more publicity concerning cybercrime directed towards the youth, professional counselors, and social workers who are trained to care for the affected youths and to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in arresting any individual perpetrating cybercrime.
