EFFECTS OF CHILD MALTREATMENT AND ITS IMPLICATION ON CHILDREN’S DEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT

This study examines the effects of child maltreatment and its implication on children’s development. The study adopted the survey research design which enabled the researcher to source data from a sample of 100 respondents. The data was analyse using percentage and chi-square statistical technique, the result shows child maltreatment is found to have effects on the physical health development of the child in Ovia North East Local Government. The result also shows that child maltreatment also exhibit significant effect on the psychological wellbeing of the child in Ovia North East Local Government. The result further revealed that child maltreatment exercises significant effects on the social and emotional development of child in Ovia North East Local Government. The study recommends that child maltreatment should be discouraged in totality because of its serious effects on the physical health development in Ovia North East Local Government. Child maltreatment should be control among families, parents and caregivers to find ways of reducing child abuse in order to eliminate the psychological wellbeing of the child in Ovia North East Local Government. The local government child welfare department should find a way of preventing and controlling child maltreatment that could cause social and emotional development of child in Ovia North East Local Government.
