ABSTRACT

A study on the effect of cassava effluent on two microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and Dictyosphaerium phacellum was carried out for fourteen days. The experiment was done in triplicate using different concentrations, with 0% treatment as the control, while other treatments were filled with 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the cassava effluent respectively. And both algae growth response were measured using visible spectrophotometer at 750nm and some physical parameters were analyzed before and after the experiment. Descriptive statistics, inferential (one way analysis of variance) ANOVA repeated measures, paired t-test and Turkey test were done using Microsoft Excel 2010 and statiscal package for social sciences SPSS20. The results showed that different concentrations of cassava effluent affected the growth of both algae. Treatments with cassava effluent had stimulatory growth while treatment without cassava effluent which is the control had no growth. A decrease in pH was observed at the end of the project. There was significant difference of P>0.5 in the growth response of the microalgae
