Effect of bottling company effluent Eichhornia crassipes was carried out. This macrophyte was collected from Ovia River in Edo state while the bottling effluent was collected from Iguosa River and transported immediately to the screen house in the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology in the university of Benin where the experimental process was conducted. The experimental treatment consisted of 0 % (control), 5 %, 10 %, 25 %, 50 % and 100 % v/v. The plants were exposed to the treatment for fifteen (15) days, readings were taken periodically every three days. Chlorophyll content index (CCI) in control treatment (0 %) increased rapidly from 34.47 ± 2.80 CCI on Day 0 to 54.73 ± 0.69 on Day 15. In 5 % it increased rapidly from 18.60 ± 1.05 CCI on Day 0 to 46.93 ± 1.93 on Day 6 and gradually decreased from 45.20 ± 1.74 CCI on Day 9 through 42.23 ± 1.72 CCI on Day 12 to 34.93 ± 2.17 CCI on Day 15. Similar trend of rapid increase and gradual decline in CCI was observed in in 10 % treatment from Day 0 (22.57 ± 1.68 CCI) to (47.13 ± 5.94) on Day 6 and gradually declined from 44.07 ± 5.98 on day 9 to 36.07 ± 2.95 on day 15. In 25 % concentration, rapid increase in CCI was only noticed on Day 3 with 29.93 ± 2.35 CCI from 18.23 ± 1.33 on Day 0. This was followed by gradual decrease from Day 6 with 28.50 ± 1.56 CCI to 23.33 ± 2.94 CCI on Day 15.A sharp decrease was observed in the highest concentration of 100 % from 20.67 ± 2.32 on Day 0 to 13.77 ± 1.59 CCI on Day 15. The 50 % treated plants showed an inconsistent decrease and increase from Day 0 with 20.30 ± 2.00 CCI to 16.93 ± 1.47 CCI on Day 9 and a rapid increase from 43.20 ± 5.01 CCI on Day 12 to 43.23 ± 2.20 on Day 15. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) among the control (0 %), 5 % and 10 % on Day 3, 6, 9 and Day12. Similarly, no significant differences (P > 0.05) between 50 % and 100 % on Day 0, 3, 6 and Day 9, but significant differences occurred between control (0 %) and (25 %) as well as between 0 % and 50 % with 100 % throughout the experimental period, while the control only differ from 5 % only on Day 0 and Day 5.
