ABSTRACT
Xylopia aethiopica is an aromatic plant that grow up to a tree of about 20cm tall and 60cm in diameter. It is popularly known as Negro pepper, Ethiopia pepper or grains of salim. The plant extract have been reported to have high amount of phenols, flavonoids and alkaloids. The aim of this study is to determine the dose dependent effects of aqueous extract of Xylopia aethiopica on the body weight, blood parameters and histology of the experimental animals. Twenty Wistar rats were used. They were divided into four groups of five rats each. Group A served as the control group, Group B was treated with 250mg/kg body weight of the extract, Group C was treated with 500mg/kg body weight of the extract, and Group D was treated with 1000mg/kg body weight of the extract. All the groups were given feed and water ad litum.this experiment spanned for a period of 56 days, after which the fermur bone and blood samples was excised.
