ABSTRACT
The study focused on the effectiveness of SUBEB in the management of Public Primary Schools in Edo State. It also examined the effects of some demographic variables such as Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), designation, location (urban & rural) and age of head teachers/teachers on SUBEB management effectiveness. Six research questions were posed to guide the study and four hypotheses were tested at an alpha level of 0.05.
The study was a descriptive survey. The target population of the study consisted of all the head-teachers and teachers in Edo State public primary schools as at June 2021. A random sampling technique was used to select the schools and teachers from 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State: 10% of head-teachers and 2 teachers each from 10% of primary schools in 18 Local Government Areas were used for the study. Questionnaire on SUBEB Management Effectiveness was designed and utilized for the study. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical tools such as simple percentages, mean scores, t-test and one way analysis of variance.
The findings from the results showed that SUBEB in charge of Edo state public primary schools were generally effective in their management responsibilities. Furthermore, the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the management responsibilities of SUBEB in terms of LGEA, designation and location. In view of the findings of the study, the researcher recommended that since the prevailing management effectiveness of SUBEB in public primary schools in Edo State was found to be high, SUBEB Management Staff should further strengthen the trend by ensuring effective supervisory role, human resource management and regular school evaluation/ audit. Similarly SUBEB management should endeavor to delegate duties properly for very effective administration.
