If the rehabilitation programs are effectively and efficiently incorporated and implemented in the correctional facilities systems, recidivism, socio and economic wellbeing of the inmates are most likely to be impacted. Furthermore, this theory is relevant to the study as it tries to establish the justification or rationale behind the treatment of the convict by changing the attitude and behaviour of criminals so that they will be able to choose lawful means, in satisfying their needs (Dinitz & Dine, 1989). This theory emphasizes the need to retrain the convict so that he can live a lawful and independent life which upon release. It advocates that rehabilitation progrrammes be designed to transform convicts’ life styles through the vigorous application of discipline, education, work and other relevant programmes.
