ABSTRACT
Proper environmental sanitation is a prerequisite for the prevention of communicable diseases, sustenance of global health and proper education. This study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, south- south Nigeria. Structured questionnaires were used to elicit information from individuals. The results indicate that 57 % of the individuals believed that environmental sanitation keeps the surrounding environment clean. 58% believed that sanitation of the environment is necessary . 56% are of the opnion that people poorly response to sanitation exercise on public sanitation days. 58 % were on the view that the residents of Oredo Local Government Area do not have the necessary equipment in solving environmental sanitation. Therefore, efforts towards combating environmental sanitation problems in the state should be a top priority in order to achieve development goals.
