ABSTRACT
In this research work, undoped copper oxide and 10% manganese doped copper oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using the co-precipitation method. Manganese (ii) sulphate monohydrate, copper (ii) chloride dihydrate were used as precursors, Polyvinyl alcohol was used as binding agent and NaOH was used as precipitating agent. The samples were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy for their structural, morphological, and functional group identification, respectively. The effect of undoped copper oxide nanoparticles and 10% manganese doped copper oxide nanoparticles on antibacterial activity was also studied on Salmonella Specie. The effect of time, concentration, pH and dosage on the adsorption of Cadmium for undoped copper oxide and 10% manganese doped copper oxide nanoparticles was also studied. The average crystallite size of undoped copper oxide was found 38.38nm whereas the average crystallite size of 10% Mn-doped CuO was found to be 22.54nm. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed rod-shaped morphology for undoped copper oxide nanoparticles and for 10% manganese doped copper oxide nanoparticles.
