ABSTRACT
Crude Oil production and subsequent treatment, it is transferred to Forcados Terminal through Amukpe Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) unit. In order to know the quantity and quality of crude being produced, an effective metering system is needed. Metering of crude oil requires equipment such as Positive Displacement (PD) Meter, Auto-Sampler, Pressure Gauges, Temperature Gauges, Pressure Recorder, Temperature Recorder, Strainers and Prover Loop. The PD Meter registers the quantity of Crude Oil pumped through the LACT unit while the Auto-Sampler takes care of quality. This project examines Positive Displacement Meters for liquid measurement, factors influencing its design and performance. Data was obtained from a Multinational Oil Company in Nigeria.
BS&W analysis using Dean and Stark method as quality control check was discussed. API and Specific Gravity of Crude Oil were determined. From the results obtained, we were able to determine the amount of Crude Oil produced and how second and third party transactions are carried out during metering.
With effective daily production metering at the Custody Transfer Operations, there is no cheating between the parties.
Also, reduction of dollar investment in lease storage facilities is achieved.
