ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the effect of work stress on employee job performance in the Bank using Skye Bank, GT Bank and First Bank Benin City as case study. The main objective was to determine the relationship between work stress and employee job performance in the banking industry. The study adopted the descriptive survey design using percentage and regression on hypothesis and questions formulated. The population of the study comprised of all employees of Skye, GT and First Bank all in Benin City and a sample of two hundred employees were selected using the Taro Yamane method of sampling. Data was collected by means of questionnaire and personal interview. The findings of the study revealed that that there is a positive relationship between work stress and employee job performance in the bank and that employees are more productive and effective when working under less amount of stress resulting from work overload, over time and role ambiguity. The study recommended that employees should not be given too much workload at a time, roles and task should be clearly defined to avoid ambiguity and employees should not be made to stay longer than usual at work.
