ABSTRACT

The main goal was to access the concentration of these toxic heavy metals .A total of 8 samples were collected from a contaminated area labeled XYZ flow station and uncontaminated area labeled the university of Benin and it was compared with the WHO standard to check for toxicity at values higher and extremely lower than the WHO standard .The highest level of toxicity occurred at the soil, and plant sample from the XYZ community as seen in table 6 and 10 with an exception of magnesium in university of Benin plant which may have occurred because the plant was gotten around the environs of the central laboratory of university of Benin which may have been contaminated also .But generally from the graph and the table the concentration value of samples from the XYZ flow station was higher than that of the university of Benin ,this establishes the fact that contamination as a result of oil and gas production occurred there .These metals both in their higher levels and lower levels is detrimental to the human health and the environment . figure 4.1-4.4 shows the high difference in the concentration of the samples compared to the WHO whether lower or higher.
