ABSTRACT

In recent times coordination chemistry has gained much attention in the medical field. The effectiveness of complexes in the therapeutic studies cannot be overemphasized. Since coordination complexes are of such importance, the laboratory synthesis to produce the complexes under most suitable and convenient method to have the best yields need to be evaluated. The research work employs suitable conditions to make sure this aim is achieved (synthesis with different (methanol, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol) alcohol and evaluate which of it that gives the highest yield. In this study copper II complex having a formula Cu(acac)2 has been synthesized from 2,4 pentadione and copper II chloride dehydrate as the starting material. The solubility of the complex was done in different solvent on a scaling of 0.03g/mL including water, ethanol, DMSO, DMF, chloroform etc. the complex is readily soluble in chloroform. Conductivity result was obtained by dissolution in water (0.4g/200ml) and it show that the complex is a weak electrolyte. During the synthesis, methanol gave the highest yield (83%), ethanol (77%) and isopropyl alcohol (29%). Complex gotten from the methanol was used to evaluate the physiochemical and spectral studies (IR and UV).
