EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON STUDENT'S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN UNIVERSITY OF BENIN, BENIN CITY, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study seeks to examine the Effect of social media on student's academic performance in university of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. The survey research design was used to carry out this study, This study was purely quantitative and will make use of the structure questionnaire. The area of this study will be in Faculty of Social Science in University of Benin, Ugbowo campus. The population of the study will consist of student in the university of Benin. The sample size for this study will be proportionately selected from the 6 department in the faculty of social sciences. The study adopted a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument that was used for this study is a questionnaire. The study employed the quantitative method in collecting the data for the study. The data collected from respondents was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The finding of this study shows that Students’ use of social media has a significant influence on their academic performance. Some of the recommendation made include: Students should be educated on the influence of Social media on their academic performance.  Students should be monitored by parents on how they use these sites.
