ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to evaluate the usefulness of Agricultural waste Rice bran for the growth and recovery of biocontrol agent Trichoderma species by evaluating the growth rate, enzyme activity at varying moisture levels and pH levels. The Growth rate was evaluated using moisture levels at 10ml,15ml,20ml,25ml and control(0ml), and the enzyme activity was evaluated at moisture levels of 25%,50%, 75%, 100% and control (0%) of the substrate and pH varied at pH 4, pH 7, pH9 and control pH 6. Trichoderma species was observed to have the highest growth rate (3.040cm) at 25ml moisture level at day 7.Enzymatic activity was highest(0.07µg) at pH 9, and moisture levels 25%(0.0703µg) though not significantly different from other moisture levels. Basic medium (pH 9) enhances enzyme activities, (amylase) which breaks down starch (in rice bran) into sugar (glucose) that enhances the growth of Trichoderma spp.
