ABSTRACT

This study investigated effect of regular teachers teaching method on learners with visual impairment from selected primary schools in Benin City, Edo State. The purpose of this research is to assess the effect of regular teachers teaching method on learners with visual Impairment from selected primary schools in Benin City Edo state. To achieve this aim 4 research questions were raised. The population of this study comprises of all the regular teachers, special education teacher and students with visual impairment teachers in all primary school within Benin City, a sample size of 60 respondents from the main population was used. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. The retrieved data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage Mean and standard deviation). A mean of 2.5 was set as benchmark, any mean above 2.5 was regarded as positive response and any mean below 2.5 was regarded that the respondents disagreed to the hypothesis. The findings of this study among others include: indicates that teachers in Benin City employ an efficient teaching system that can accommodate the visually impaired students that attends regular school in Benin City, Students with visual impairment tend to be distracted in class due to the unavailability of learning resources, teachers frequently utilized specialized software to assess the academic progress of the visually impaired students. It was recommended that: adequate resources and training should be offered to the teachers to develop their capacities to teach the visually impaired student to help foster the learning progress of students in inclusive education.
