ABSTRACT
The results of these studies have demonstrated that seeds of D. oliveri exhibited epigeal germination. Pre-treating the seeds of D. oliveri did not significantly influence germination percentage but aided rate of germination. Seeds soaked in tepid water for 24 hours had the highest germination rate (GR), shortest germination period, lowest mean germination time (MGT), while SN, had the fastest germination peak. Seeds soaked in tepid water for 24 hours showed the best performance for all growth parameters in this study. Soaking D. oliveri seeds in alcohol reduced its germination performance. It was however observed that soaking the seeds of D. oliveri in tepid water for 24hrs and scarification by nicking triggered the early germination of the seeds.
