Effect of Poverty on Domestic Violence in Abuja Municipal

Abstract

 The study examines the impact of poverty on domestic violence in Abuja Municipal council. The cross-sectional descriptive survey design was adopted in the study while the population of the study consists of all couples in Abuja municipal council. This was irrespective of their ethnic groups or social class. And it comprise literate and non-literate, male and female from ages 18years and above that currently reside in the study area and have been in marital relationship or was once in a marital relationship. The study adopted a sample size of 400 and used both structured questionnaire and in-depth interview in collection of data. The findings from the study revealed that poverty has significant impact on domestic violence. That means, poverty and domestic violence are interwoven.
