EFFECT OF POPULATION GROWTH ON TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES IN WARRI METROPOLIS

Abstract

This study focuses on the impact of population growth on transportation facilities in Warri metropolis. The main objective of the study is to examine the effect of population growth on transportation facilities in Warri metropolis. Other objectives of the study are to examine whether the increase in population leads to increase in demand for transportation services, and if there areinternal and external measures to check and improve the availability and operation of transportation facilities. Primary data were used for the purpose of this study. The primary data were gotten through questionnaire administered to individuals in Warri metropolis. The Chi-square non-parametric test was used to test for statistical significance. From the study it was discovered that population growth has a significant impact on transportation facilities. From the study also, it was also discovered that population growth has a significant impact on the demand for transportation facilities and services. And finally, it was discovered from the study that there are internal and external measures in place to check and improve on the existing transportation facilities in Warri metropolis. The study recommended that the Delta State government should ensure that the activities carried out by the population which cause positive impact on transportation facilities should continue to be performed from time to time and those activities which cause negative impact on transportation facilities should be discouraged.
