ABSTRACT

This study examines the effect of political instability on the implementation of Nigeria's policy on secondary school education. Political instability often disrupts the educational system, impacting the effective execution of policies designed to improve the quality of education. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design, focusing on 100-level Political Science Education students from the Department of Educational Management, University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus. These students, having recently transitioned from secondary school, provide valuable insights into the challenges faced in policy implementation during periods of political instability. The study reveals that political instability affects policy execution through inadequate funding, frequent changes in government, lack of continuity in policies, and disruptions in school operations. The findings emphasize the need for stable governance to ensure the consistent and effective implementation of educational policies. Recommendations are made for strategies to mitigate the impact of political instability on secondary school education, thereby enhancing policy outcomes and improving educational standards in Nigeria.
