EFFECT OF METHANOL EXTRACT OF ACALYPHA WILKESIANA ON THE LIPID PROFILE OF NORMAL MALE WISTAR RATS

ABSTRACT

There has been a notable increase in the use of herbal medicine over the past twenty years. Moreover, there is still a tremendous lap of proper research data in the field of traditional herbal medicine Acalypha wilkesiana is a plant belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. Its common name is Copper leaf, it has antimicrobial properties which justifies its numerous medicinal uses.. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of methanol extract of Acalypha wilkesiana on the lipid profile of normal male wistar rats. 32 adult male wistar rats of the New Zealand strain, were used for this study. They were divided into 4 groups based on their weights Group 1 rats were between the weight ranges of 130g to 163g and served as the control group for the experiment. Group 2 rats were between the weight range of 175g to 245g. Group 3 rats were between the weight ranges of 176g to 212g and Group 4 rats were rats between the weight ranges of 173g to 198g.
