EFFECT OF LEARNING CORNERS ON THE PRE-SCHOOLERS’ LEARNING OUTCOMES IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effect of learning corners on the preschoolers' learning outcomes in early childhood education. In order to achieve the intended goal, Three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study. The research design used for this study is the descriptive survey design which was adopted to investigate the effect of learning corners on the preschoolers' learning outcome in preschool classrooms in private schools within Uvwie Local Government area of Delta State. The population of the study consists of private-owned pre-primary schools operating within  Uvwie Local Government area of Delta State. A sample size of One hundred (100) respondents was used for the study. Findings show that teachers use learning corners in their schools. They use the various learning corners to encourage children to be fully engaged and interested in the lessons and to actively use hands-on activities to build up the total child who will be beneficial both to him/her self as well as the society. Based on the findings, recommendations were made on how to improve on sensitizing on setting up the learning corners in preschools in Uvwie Local Government area of Delta State. The recommendations include the following; teachers and course instructors should incorporate learning corners in Early Childhood Education in curriculum implementation, general awareness to the Early Childhood Education instructors must also be put to bear on the negative implications of learning corners in Early Childhood Education for non-academic activities which could affect academic performance of preschool children, for successful effective use in the nursery and primary education level, practitioners need to be competent in the use of computer for personal and teaching purposes and furthermore, children must be taught how to adapt to learning corners in order to enhance their performance in the classroom.
