ABSTRACT

Intermittent fasting is a unique dietary strategy defined as periods of eating alternated with periods of not eating (fasting) (Patikorn et al., 2021). There have been reports of fasting having effects on albumin or fibrinogen levels (Shariatpanahi et al., 2012; Imtiaz et al., 2016) but scarce or no study have been reported for fibrinogen-albumin ratio (FAR). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of intermittent/intermediate fasting on circulating fibrinogen-albumin ratio amongst a population of young adults in the University of Benin. This was a longitudinal study involving sixty (60) apparently healthy adults both male and female aged 18- 30 years and divided into two phases; the fasting phase (test phase) and non-fasting phase (control phase). During the fasting phase, participants were made to fast or deprived of food and water for 12 hours while the control phase involved maintaining regular eating pattern.
