SUMMARY
Petroleum products have become an essential constituent of human life due to their industrial and domestic values. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of sublethal levels of excravox light crude oil and its water soluble fraction on stress of albino wistar rats and the effects of pinkwatwer biosolve. Observations from this study revealed that exposure to excravox light fraction led to oxidative damage of the kidney evident by a decrease of MDA, SOD, GPX and increase in catalase activities. The changes on body weight of the wistar rats due to the exposure to excravox light fraction in Table 3.1 is not surprising and agrees to the finding of Snodgrass et al., (2005) and Eriyamremu et al., (2007) which also reported that organisms exposed to coal combustion waste suffered sub lethal effect of reduced growth. It was also observed in Table 3.2 that the weight of the wistar rats reduced drastically after 4 weeks proving to the fact that the period of exposure to crude oil in the environment influences the sensitivity of the rats.
