ABSTRACT

The investigation on the Effect of information communication and technology (ICT) on teaching and learning of Biology at undergraduate level of University of Benin, Three (3) research questions served as it's guidelines, and it used a descriptive survey study design. It sought to find out What percentage of students will have adequate knowledge of ICT? Will ICT significantly influence students knowledge of biology? Will ICT significantly influence students knowledge of biology based on gender? The study employed a sample of Biology students in University of Benin, Edo State and a total of (100) respondents which were collected from four different department of University of Benin. The researcher developed questionnaire titled Questionnaire on "effects of ICT on teaching and learning of Biology" was used as the data collection tool. There are twenty (20) items on the questionnaire. To analyze the data collected, descriptive statistics such as simple percentage, mean and frequency were used. The study find out that high percentage of Biology Students in University of Benin have adequate knowledge of ICT, there will be significant influence of ICT on students knowledge of Biology, there will be no significant influence of ICT on students knowledge of Biology based on gender. It was suggested that Nigerian government should give priority attention to ICT integration in education by assisting the state government in funding ICT diffusion in institutions to ensure that every department is networked and Wealthy individuals, non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, and other agencies should collaborate with the state government in staff training on ICT to facilitate ICT full integration in teaching and learning process.
