ABSTRACT

The economy of a nation tells to an extent the living standard of her citizens and it reflects in every area of their lives. The economy of a nation is either buoyant or fragile based on its inflationary rate. It boils down to how it is managed by the government of a nation. When the inflationary rate of a country is high, every sector of the economy is affected. For students in Ekosodin, these dynamics pose significant challenges. Higher costs of living can strain their ability to afford basic necessities, impacting their overall well-being and potentially hindering their academic pursuits. The study seeks to examine the extent of inflation's impact on housing prices in the Ekosodin community from 2021 to 2023, Identify the specific challenges faced by both students and landlords in the process of housing construction and renting during the period of inflation; Assess the government's interventions and policies implemented to alleviate housing-related difficulties for students in the Ekosodin community in response to inflation, and Investigate the factors contributing to the persistent inflation rate in Nigeria during the specified timeframe and their direct or indirect effects on housing costs in Ekosodin. The study made use of a 4 likert scaled questionnaire to probe and measure the impact of inflation on the cost of housing in Ekosodin among 100 sample size has served as repondents to the study in Ekosodin community. The findings of the study revealed that inflation has indeed had an impact on housing in Ekosodin community. It also exposed the fact that landlords arbitrarily increase rents due to the fact that inflation affects all standards of living. Furthermore, the research showed that there are no policies known to the residents of the community that has been put in place to check the rising cost of housing in the community. At the end, the study provided policy recommendations for the people, house owners and most especially government to; Implement Targeted Subsidies for Housing; promote affordable housing development; strengthen rent control measures, improve infrastructure and public services, and enhance financial literacy and housing education among the residents in Ekosodin community.
