ABSTRACT
Poultry feed is essential for the healthy development and growth of chickens. It should contain all the essential nutrients, such as energy, amino acids, proteins, fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. Poultry feed can be made from a variety of ingredients, including agricultural wastes such as cassava peel, snail shells, and wood ash. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional effect of formulated feed on Broiler breed of chicks from 4 week to 8 weeks. The study found that formulated feed prepared from agricultural wastes was effective as poultry feed comparable with commercial super starter feed and mixture of both. The formulated feed was made from a mixture of snail shell, corn shaft, beans shaft, ash, dried cassava peels, and fish crumps. The feed was given to 60 Broiler chicks for 4 weeks. The results of the study showed that the chicks that were fed the formulated feed had better growth performance and hematological and biochemical parameters than the chicks that were fed the commercial feed or the mixture of both. The study concluded that formulated poultry feed prepared from domestic wastes is a viable alternative to commercial feed. It is more affordable and can be produced locally, which can help to reduce the cost of poultry production.
