ABSTRACTThis study was carried out to examine the impact of employee participation in decision making on organisational commitment using Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Ltd (NPDC) Benin City as case study. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between employee participation in decision making and organisational commitment. The study adopted the descriptive survey design using percentage and regression analysis to test the hypothesis. The population of the study comprised of employees of NPDC Benin City and a sample of two hundred and fifty five employees was selected using the Taro Yamane method of sampling. Data was collected by means of questionnaires and personal interview. The findings of the study revealed that that there is a positive relationship between employee participation in decision making and organisational commitment in NPDC and that if barriers to participation is eliminated or minimized, organisational commitment will increase significantly, also the more employees are given the opportunity to participate, the more their commitment to the organisation. The study recommended that employees should be allowed to participate in the decision making process in order to gain maximum commitment to the organisation, the study also recommended that there should be a system put in place that supports employees in gaining more education and skill set in order to be able to significantly contribute to the decisions and policy making of the organisation as this invariably boosts the organisational commitment of employees.
