ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on interpersonal relationship in Benson Idahosa University, Benin city. It sought to: ascertain the effect of emotional intelligence on interpersonal skills, to determine if there is a relationship between employees self-awareness and interpersonal relationship, to examine if there is a relationship between employees self-management and interpersonal relationship, and to determine if there is a relationship between social awareness and interpersonal relationship. Benson Idahosa University was selected as the case study with a population of 436 as at the time the data was collected and a sample size of 150 employees was employed. Three hypotheses were tested at 5% level of significance using regression analysis specific findings are : One variable (social awareness) was found to significantly affect interpersonal relationship ,while the other two variables (self-awareness and self-management) were found to have no significant effect on interpersonal relations .The result the regression analysis shows that social awareness is much higher and most critical variable that affects interpersonal skills than self-awareness and self-management. This study recommends that Benson Idabosa University should provide employees with low self-awareness and self-management counseling on interpersonal relationship. Amongst other things that employees should focus on working more on social-awareness, to increase their interpersonal skills.
