EFFECT OF DIET CONTAINING GRADED LEVELS OF PULVERISED SEEDS OF AZANZA GARCKEANA ON SEX HORMONES OF MALE WISTAR ALBINO RATS

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the effect of diet containing graded levels of pulverized seeds of Azanza garckeana on sex hormones such as LH, FSH, prolactin, progestorene, testosterone and estradiol levels on male wistar albino rats. A total of twenty four (24) rats were used for this study. The rats were acclimatized for fourteen days and divided into six (6) groups. Group 1 served as control group and group 2 to 4 were the experimental groups that were fed with the pulverized seeds (feeds). The result obtained from study shows a non- significant increase (p > 0.05)  in the level of luteinizing hormone and prolactin hormone in the experimental group of rat fed with 10% and 30% with the pulverized seeds of Azanza garckeana while there was a significant change (p < 0.05) in the FSH level in the experimental group of rats fed with 20% with the pulverized feed of azanza garckeana . there was also a non-significant increase in progestorene and Testosterone levels of rat fed with a 10% and 30% of the pulerised seeds of azanzan garckeana  compared with the control group. While there was a significant change in Extradiol levels of rats in the experimental group when compared with control group. The findings are indicative that pulverized seeds of azanza garckena  has an effect in male wistar albino rats.
