ABSTRACT
This study examined the influence of Covid-19 on the academic performance of secondary school students in English Language in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.. Five research questions were raised and one of the research questions was hypothesized to guide the study The research adopted the survey research design in the study. The population consist of the twenty three (23) public secondary schools Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State with a total of 5, 206 (five thousand, two hundred and six) students in both junior and senior secondary schools and a sample size of one hundred (100) students was used in this study. Data were collected with the aid of a self constructed questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using mean statistics and standard deviation. From the findings it was discovered that COVID-19 influenced the learning pattern, willingness in English Language, students attendance to school of secondary schools students in English Language and there was no significant difference in the academic performance of students before and after the Covid-19 pandemic in English Language . Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that secondary school administrators of learning must as a matter of necessity improvise means through which knowledge delivery and general learning activities can be achieved seamlessly and at the lowest cost to the students even while they are at home.
