ABSTRACT
This study aimed at examining the job satisfaction in the Nigerian Telecommunication Industry (MTN, GLO, Airtel and Etisalat) using Benin City and Lagos as case studies. The specific objective of this study was to examine the level of the job satisfaction of casual staff in the Telecommunication Industry and to determine if there was any difference between the job satisfaction levels of the casual workers compared to the permanent employees in the Telecommunication Industry. Primary sources of data collection were employed. The population of both the casual and permanent workers in the four telecommunication firms studied was Seven thousand two hundred and thirty three (7233). The sample size of 371 for casual workers and 337 for permanent workers was determined using Taro Yamane formula. Data generated were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistic. Independent t-test was used to test the hypothesized significant difference between the job satisfaction level of the casual employees and their counterparts. Findings of the study revealed that there was a low level of job satisfaction among casual workers in the telecommunication industry and a significant difference between casual workers and permanent employee’s job satisfaction level. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that Management of Telecommunication Industry in Nigeria should adjust their employment system to close the gaps between casual and permanent staff job benefits especially the ones related remuneration, access to training and working conditions considering the economy situation in Nigeria.
