ABSTRACT
The study determined the effects of audio-visuals aids on effective teaching and learning of accounting in senior secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Four research questions guided the study and one null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance for the study.
The survey research design was used for this study. The population of the study was 18 teachers and 387 SSS III students offering financial accounting in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Proportionate sampling technique was used and 77 students was the sample size while the teachers was used accordingly. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The instrument used was validated by three experts.Chronbach alpha method was used to compute reliability of the instrument which yielded correlation coefficient of 0.75 and 0.71 for teachers and students respectively.
Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. The t-test was used to test the hypothesis. From the results of the analysis, it was discovered that teachers and students in Oredo Local Government Area rated audio-visual aids such as multimedia projectors, interactive television, computers and virtual classrooms are highly effective in the teaching and learning of accounting in senior secondary schools. Male and female students did not differ significantly in their mean ratings on the effect of audio-visuals on effective teaching and learning of accounting in senior secondary schools hence the null hypothesis was accepted. Consequently, it was recommended that schools should encourage training and retraining of teachers on the use of these audio-visuals aids for teaching. Furthermore, government at all levels should increase budgetary spending on education especially on procurement of ICT related facilities.
