ABSTRACT
This study examined the effect of ASUU strike on the academic performance of students in Nigerian Universities: A case study of Department of Educational Foundations, University of Benin (UNIBEN). The study adopted the survey research design with which data were sourced from a sample of 100 students from Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, the study adopted simple percentage to analyse the data using tables. The results revealed that ASUU strikes causes disruption in academic program of University of Benin and it has strong effect on effective students’ learning. ASUU-students’ relationship during strike dwindles leading to loss of enthusiasm on the part of students’ study habit. Also, ASUU strikes have direct negative effect on students’ academic performance in University of Benin and ASUU strikes reduce students’ motivation towards learning in University of Benin. The study recommends that there should online ASUU-students’ relationship during strike as to enhance continuous learning even during the strike as it will promote students studying habit. Government and ASUU should find a level ground not allow industrial action to have direct impact on students’ academic performance in University of Benin. The students’ should encourage themselves to be committed to self-studying even during ASUU strike.
