Project Summary
The results of the present study showed that the seed germination and root development in white and yellow maize was gradually reduced with the increase of lead and arsenic concentrations. It was also observed that the root growth and shoot growth were sensitive to lead and arsenic stress. Results in this study also showed that the high concentration lead and arsenic treatments increased alpha and beta amylase activity in maize. Therefore, this is the responsibility of Government and various environmental agencies to controlling heavy metals pollution especially lead. In the metal contaminated areas, further research is needed to determine different levels of metals in the environment and various parts of the plants.
