ABSTRACT

Acalypha wilkesiana is a Medicinal plant that has the presence of some phytochemicals that has effects on the immune system against infections and tumors. This research examined the effect of the Ethanol leaf extract on the blood profile of rats exposed to 1,2-dimethylhydrazine. A total of 69 rats were divided into nine groups labeled A to I, each containing seven animals. Groups 1, 2, 3, and 8 consisted of 7 animals, while groups 5, 6, 7, and 9 consisted of eight animals. Group 2 received dimethylhydrazine and Xeloda capecitabine treatment, while groups 3, 4, and 5 were given dimethylhydrazine and treated with Acalypha wilkesiana. Group 1 was solely fed growers mash and water. Groups 6, 7, and 8 were initially administered Acalypha wilkesiana and then dimethylhydrazine. Blood samples were collected on September 21, 2023. The study found significant (p < 0.05) increases in total white cell count and lymphocyte count, as well as monocyte count (MC). Additionally, the administration of the extract led to a significant (p < 0.05) increase in MC. This suggests that Acalypha wilkesiana may be safe, as it did not induce an immune response in the animals. This research assesses the impact of Acalypha wilkesiana on the white blood cells, lymphocytes and Monocytes of wister rats administered 1,2-dimethylhydrazine.
