ABSTRACT
This study dealt on educational wastage among University Undergraduates in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were raised and examined. Data was collected from one hundred (100) respondents randomly selected from the department of educational management, Faculty of Education, University of Benin. The research instrument used for data collection for the study was a questionnaire titled “Educational Wastage Among Undergraduates Questionnaire (EWAUQ)”. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using simple percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis.
The findings from the study indicated that financial difficulties are a major determinant of educational wastage among undergraduates. It also revealed that the level of educational wastage among undergraduates in the University of Benin is high. Findings also revealed that school related factors contribute most to educational wastage among the University of Benin Undergraduates.
Some of the recommendations made include that the parents should have various sources of income and manageable families. It was also recommended that the counseling units in university should be encouraged to reduce the influence of school related factors. Lastly, it was recommended that the lecturers should have a work-life balance and be rightly motivated.
