ABSTRACT

This research work empirically examines the influence of economic recession on agricultural production, finding out the extent to which economic recession will affect the prices as well as the distribution of agricultural produce in Ugbowo, Benin metropolis. The research design adopted for this study is the survey research method. The population targeted for this study consist of producers, distributors and consumers of agricultural produce within Ugbowo, Benin city. Instrument used for this study is the questionnaire Findings were obtained from the extensive analysis carried out on the responses obtained from the structured questionnaire, and it was seen that economic recession will increase the market price of agricultural produce, and will also reduce the production rate of agricultural produce as well as reduce the distribution of agricultural produce. We recommended that a friendly policy environment that target competitive incentives for private investment be created in order to boost marketing subsector, fostering effective and efficient linkages with the industry to achieve maximum value chains additions and processing of food for export.
