ABSTRACT

Ten(10) samples collected from Igarra area as a case study were subjected to further petrographic studies and their result were obtained. From the petrographic analysis, the rock is coarsed grained and porphyritic in texture. The grains are subhedral, the rock is inequigranular and holocrystalline. The mineral composition includes quartz, microcline, plagioclase, Biotite, hornblende and muscovite. A plot of quartz against feldspar on the QAP diagram classified the granite as a syenogranite. As at when this report was carried out, the Igarra area was one of the area for mineral exploitation in south western Nigeria. The rock has a tightly interlocking crystallinity which makes it have many Economic uses in the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, dams and for the manufacturing of tiles. It can be cut in dimensions which are polished and then used for ornamentation purposes.
