ABSTRACT

The Research borders on Economic Dependency and the Third World Underdevelopment, with particularity on Nigeria. Several narratives of underdevelopment in the developing of third world have posed unit of analyses. To further understand the narrative, the research looked into the historical background of Underdevelopment in its Chapter One, the Conceptualization of Dependency, Underdevelopment, X-rayed into Dependency theories, Dependency theory and Africa’s Underdevelopment, Dependency theory and Nigeria’s Development in Chapter Two. Furthermore, the research deemed imperative to cover the major cause of economic dependency in Nigeria, and in Chapter Four, dependency and underdevelopment in Nigeria with the cultural dependency and underdevelopment in perspective, as well as Nigeria’s military dependency, roles of multinationals on Nigeria’s economy and Nigeria’s elites and economic dependency. Finally, the research in its Chapter Five accepted the realism of arguments surrounding the discourses of dependency and underdevelopment of third world countries by multiple scholars drawing conclusions and making suitable recommendations.
