ABSTRACT
This study explores the role of drama as a social mediation tool through an analysis of Esiaba Irobi's play "Nwokedi." Grounded in the context of Nigerian society, the study investigates how drama functions as a means of addressing social issues, fostering dialogue, and promoting social change. Drawing on theories of drama and social mediation, the analysis examines the ways in which "Nwokedi" engages with themes of identity, power dynamics, and cultural conflicts within the Nigerian community. Through a close reading of the text, the study elucidates how the play serves as a platform for reflecting on societal norms, challenging dominant narratives, and envisioning alternative futures. By shedding light on the transformative potential of drama in mediating social relations, this study contributes to our understanding of the intersection between art, culture, and social change in contemporary Nigerian society.
