CONCLUSION
Just like a marble sculpture of a mother and child where one cannot possibly separate the child from the mother without destroying the entire sculpture, so it is with the role of government and NGO in the fight against domestic violence. The government and citizens have to work hand in hand in ensuring that GBV is completely eradicated from the society. Any attempt to fight alone without the assistance of the other, will be an effort in futility
In Nigeria, men often use violence to enforce their dominance and none egalitarian gender norms, particularly in the initial years of marriage. Some women expected that education could translate into at least the potential for employment or earnings, the earnings would then afford women greater status and rights in the home and protection from abuse. All respondents were able to define domestic violence and the types of domestic violence; although each respondent had his or her own definition others defined domestic violence as mistreating each other, home mistreatment, family mistreatment, misplacement of responsibility. Excessive beer drinking proved to be the major factor contributing to domestic violence in most of the homes. Husbands who drink beer pick most of the fights which happens in most homes when they are drank.
