ABSTRACT
This research attempts the documentation of planting and harvesting verbs in the Edo Language. It investigates why each planting verb is ascribed to some specific plant, to account for the reason verbs differ according to selected crops and also to account for the verbs of planting and harvesting and the group of crops they select to co-occur with.
The data for this work were gathered from competent native speakers of the Edo Language and were analysed accurately and critically.
The study found that certain verbs are used for certain plants, and also that plants differ according to the selected crops due to the nature of plants and crops.
The study recommends that an individual should first understand and get used to the various terms associated with each crop.
The study concludes that all planting and harvesting verbs are not exclusive to crops they are listed under.
