ABSTRACT
A population based cross sectional study conducted at Evbotubu community to determine the prevalence of Visual impairment in the community. 652 subjects (269 males and 383 Females)within the age range of 11-90 years old participated in the study. The results obtained showed that 404 participants(198 males & 206 Females) were visually impaired and the most common cause of Visual impairment was Pterygium(57.90%)followed by Uncorrected refractive errors(19.6%).The least cause of Visual impairment in this community was Diabetic retinopathy(0.3%).The age group with the highest number of visual impairment was 41-50 while the age group with the least number of visual impairment was 81-90.Pterygium was more prevalent within the age range of 41-50(20.3%).other causes of visual impairment in Evbotubu community were Presbyopia(9.9%),cataract(6.6%) and glaucoma(5.7%).It was also noted from this study that visual impairment was more prevalent among females than males.
