ABSTRACT
The species abundance and diurnal activity of cyclorrhapha diptera in University of Benin Farm was investigated between September and October 2019 using a sweep net. Flies were collected from the following sites; residence, refuse, abattoir, animal shed and meat market. Five species of cyclorrhapha diptera were observed, they include; Musca domestica (22.02%), Chrysomia bezziana (50.56%), Hydrotaea ignava (27.23%), Ceroxys latiusculus (0.06%), Lucilia coeruloiviridis (0.12%). Chrysomia bezziana was dominant in university farm, whereas refuse and abattoir harbored most flies. There was no discrimination between the morning (9am-11am), midday (11am-1pm) and afternoon (1pm-3pm) in the abundance of flies. On individual basis, Muscsa domestica was dominant in residence (30.70%) and meat market (30.96%). Chrysomia bezziana (69.88%) was dominant in refuse. Hydrotaea ignava (63.83%) was most abundant in abattoir. Analysis of the result revealed that adequate control of Musca domestica, Chrysomia bezziana and Hydrotaea ignava could be attained in residence/meat market, refuse and abattoir respectively.
