ABSTRACT
There are diverse burial rites in Yoruba land which have been practiced for decades depending on the type of death, age, sex and social status of the deceased. The practice of burial rites among the Yoruba people of Nigeria is greatly influenced by the belief in afterlife.
The purpose of this project is to digitize these diverse burial rites. Proper documentation of burial rites in Ondo has not been adequately focused on by many Yoruba scholars as expected. There is need for digitizing research work on burial rites.
The impact of digitizing burial rites has actually been undermined especially in a cosmopolitan society. A substantial cross cultural and historical research shows that burial rites are diverse. We made use of Lexique pro to document these rites. It allows users to generate online dictionaries, stored in a digital format. The data for the study was gotten from informants who reside in Ondo and online sources. The method adopted was that of the direct interview. At the end of the research we are able to get the diverse burial rites into a mini dictionary format to allow researchers from around the world access them.
