ABSTRACT
Encryption is the basic building block of security in data. It is the most important way to ensure a system’s information can’t be stolen and accessed by someone for malicious purposes. Data security encryption is widely used by individuals and large organisations to secure data and information. The information could encompass everything from payment data to personal information. Encryption algorithm or cipher is used to develop encryption schemes that can only be theoretically broken with large amounts of computational power. In today's world, data is stored in computer databases both locally and on the World Wide Web. Mobile devices are also among the devices that tend to contain lots of personal data and information which are very insecure. The use of mobile phones with access to the internet has skyrocketed, this means that more vital data is been generated and stored by the users and this increases the need for privacy and safety of the vital data. Mobile phones are one of the most widespread means of communication in use nowadays and are often used to transmit large amounts of data. It is widely used these days to store/access data and information in line with the Internet. As the use of mobile technology becomes more widespread and more security is needed by the users to protect their private data or information, there is also the chance of them forgetting their chosen passwords for the needed database hence the aim of this study is to enable the encryption and storage of sensitive data on a mobile device which allows for a more secure environment and no loss of vital data due to the loss of the said vital data.
