ABSTRACT

Fuzzy linear programming is an application of fuzzy set theory in linear decision-making problems, when the linear programming problems have both their objective function and constraints as fuzzy, the linear programming problem is referred to as fully fuzzy linear programming problem. One of the most important daily problems in operations research is solving optimization problems. The usual nature of data is vague and imprecise in practice. The aim of this project is to develop a software program using visual basic programming language for solving trapezoidal fuzzy linear programming problems.

The method used is the simplex method which is normally used for solving linear programming problems in crisp environment. Two ranking functions were considered; Maleki ranking function and Yager ranking function. Maleki ranking function was employed to convert the fuzzy numbers to crisp.

The software was used to solve trapezoidal fuzzy linear programming problems and the results were compared with real life solutions of the same, the results obtained showed the accuracy of the software and also showed that it was successful and it is not likely to fail.
