ABSTRACT
The study investigated selected heavy metals contents of water samples from the upstream and downstream of the river using the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer.All the observed heavy metals in sobe river were detected except for As,On and Cd. The concentration of the analyzed metals detected were 0.04Mg/L ,0.02mg/L ,0.01Mg/L and 0.02Mg/L respectively for Cu,Cr,Ni and Co respectively in downstream. The results obtained were compared to the recommended limits based on WHO standard for drinking water and surface water.The concentration of the selected heavy metals were all lower than the recommended maximum limit for drinking water stipulated by WHO. The values obtained for the different metals observed revealed that the concentrations of metals were as a result of natural influence. Keywords: Heavy metals,Upstream ,Downstream
