ABSTRACT
Medicinal plants include various types of plants used in herbalism and some of these plants have a medicinal activity. These medicinal plants consider a rich resource of bioactive ingredients such as alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and phenols which can be used in drug development and synthesis. Picralimanitida is considered one of the many examples of medicinal plants with great therapeutic potential. Among the therapeutic properties reported from Picralimanitida include antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, larvicidal, anti-microbial anti-ulcer, and antioxidant properties just to mention a few. The study determined the in vitro radical scavenging potentials of Picralimanitida on Nitric oxide (NO). All data were analyzed using analyses of variance (ANOVA). From the study, the plant was able to display radical scavenging properties on NO, the medicinal properties exhibited by this plant suggest that P. nitida could be useful to African traditional medicine in combating various diseases anomaly. These findings justified the applications of the plant in African folklore and provide a platform for further investigations to completely explore the pharmacologic and therapeutic potentials of this plant.
